Volunteer Abingdon community members assist Abingdon's social work team with two food distribution programs. Thanks to a community grant from Field to Table and donations from the community, the Cardinal Caring Cupboard has served hundreds of Abingdon families since its inception in 2025.  The CCC accepts food donations as follows:

• Canned goods: beans, vegetables, fruit, proteins (fish or chicken), soup

• Pantry staples: cooking oil, pasta, rice, cereal, sauces, seasonings

• Shelf-stable extras: milk boxes, peanut butter, fruit/applesauce pouches, granola/snack bars

• Toiletries: soap, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, feminine hygiene products

• Baby care: Baby food, formula

Please do not donate baked goods or items that require refrigeration, are past their expiration date, or are in packaging that can be easily damaged or punctured. You can also make a cash donation via this site: Cardinal Caring Cupboard. 

In 2018, PTA helped reestablish a school garden at Abingdon. (The original was founded in 1991 and may have been the first in Arlington!) Since then, PTA members have joined with community gardeners a couple times each year for garden cleanup events. In 2024, PTA also helped plant a new pollinator garden by the car drop-off lane.

Each Winter, the PTA partners with the school social work team to collect and distribute winter coats to Abingdon families. Consider volunteering to help organize coats and ensure the right sizes get to the right kids.
